Residence of Chanhassen Watering Schedule

When using the city water supply system for lawn and garden sprinkling, irrigation, car washing or other non-potable uses shall be limited to an odd-even schedule corresponding to property address effective each year from May 1 to September 30.Odd/Even Schedule
  • If your property address ends in an even number (0, 2, 4, 6 or 8), then you may sprinkle on even days of the month (2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.).
  • If your property address ends in an odd number (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9), you may sprinkle on odd days of the month (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.)

The restrictions apply only to the use of municipal water. Private wells and alternate water sources are exempt from the restrictions.

Permits
Permits for daily watering of new sod (14 days) and seed (21 days) can be obtained from the Engineering Department at no cost. If it is determined that a shortage of the water supply threatens the City, the City may, by resolution, limit the use, times and hours during which water may be used from the City’s water supply system.

Here are some helpful tips to watering your lawn:

The best time of day to water your lawn is in the early morning. Moisture is able to reach the roots and yet the leaf surfaces are able to become dry.

Watering during the heat of the day is not the most efficient time for the plant to be watered. Although it can cool the plant, it is not recommended because much of the water would be lost through evaporation before it has had a chance to be taken up by the grass plants.

Watering at night or late in the evening creates a very humid environment and should be avoided. The excessive moisture, combined with high humid summer night temperatures, are conditions optimal for severe disease problems.
