Chanhassen Prepares to Celebrate 50th Anniversary
As Chanhassen nears its 50th birthday, the city is planning a major party.
According to the Chanhassen Villager, In commemoration of this historic day, the city will be hosting a 50th Anniversary Community Celebration 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, May 8 on the Fountain Plaza in City Center Park.
Chanhassen was incorporated as a city on May 8, 1967. Later that year, the first Chanhassen City Council was formed, with Gene Coulter elected mayor and James Bennyhoff, Hibbert Hill, Al Klingelhutz, and Adolph Tessness as council members, the article said.
Other activities and events associated with the city’s 50th anniversary include a “Why I Love Chanhassen” youth essay contest, downtown street banners, special Fourth of July events, and an online anniversary memory book, the article said.
